6/22/2023 0 Comments Spike tv verizon10 ms is definitely good enough for both of those. Without a good ping time there’s no way you’re going to use a connection for gaming or video calls. Sure, speed is super important but slower ping times has always hampered wireless connections. That last stat is one of the most important. In my tests we got about 700 Mbps download speed, 160 Mbps upload speed and a ping time for 11 ms. Considering our proximity to a small cell tower I expected speeds to be pretty good… and they were. Once installed, it was time to check the speeds. Verizon 5G Home antenna mounted at Fox31 studios with UWB tower in the background For us, it was easy because we had a window that gave us a clear view of a UWB tower. I talked with the installer while he went through the process and there’s no question I could have done it myself. We had an installer drop by the office to setup the hardware but Verizon will allow you to do a self-install. Verizon sent an installer to Fox31 and we tested out the service for a couple of weeks. The wireless company just recently launched Verizon 5G Home in the Denver metro that uses their new small cell ultra wide band towers to bring fiber-speed connections wireless into your home, apartment of business. It would have been neat to be able to replay the game and have all those replaced with Kenzie’s point of view so the story isn’t so one-sided. In its roughly three-hour runtime, my only complaint is that we’re strictly given Michael’s perspective throughout the entire affair as it’s his thought scribbles you read. The passive aggressive comments cut a little too deep when they come, and the longing sadness almost lingers on the voice at times. Voiced by actual real life couple Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel, there’s this extra layer of rawness to their delivery as you can almost feel like some lines hit a little too close to home for the actors. Told through diary entry styled scribbles on the wall and the occasional voiceover, you’re introduced to Kenzie and Michael who you follow on their journey as they meet and inevitably drift apart. Maquette might be a puzzle game, but there’s a heartwarming story to be had as well. And while the game can be quite clever at times, there were a few rare moments where it was a bit too obtuse with its solutions. Maquette is full of “ah-ha!” puzzles that excite you when you figure out the shtick. You may need to cross another chasm but you don’t have access to the previous bridge model, but something else might work just as well. The game goes beyond that though, by making you think of nontraditional uses for everyday items. For example, an early puzzle requires you to cross a chasm that’s missing a bridge well somewhere in that level is a small model bridge you can then place in the corresponding location in the maquette to then have a larger bridge appear, closing the gap you need to cross. This involves dropping said item into the innermost maquette, which creates a larger version in the surrounding area. To solve the various puzzles littered around each level, you’ll have to manipulate physical objects, be it a key or a slab of wood. At the center of each level is a maquette, a small model of the surrounding area but what you slowly realize is that the area you’re within is itself actually a small model of an even larger space (think of a Russian nesting doll). It’s this concept that the game’s gimmick is built around. It’s too easy to describe Maquette as an MC Escher-esque type puzzle game because the influence is bright as day, but there’s an added layer of physicality to some of the puzzles that (along with the sweet story) help Maquette stand out from its peers.Ī maquette, if you didn’t know, is a small model of a larger building. MonsterVine was supplied with a PC code for review Graceful Decay comes out strong with their debut game, Maquette, a poignant puzzle game with a bittersweet story at its core. This siren call of the rhythm is apparent almost immediately, with the call-and-response chants to start the track, then reinforced by the percussion to establish its almost-hypnotic feel. In this sense, the rhythm truly is going to get the listener - between its driving percussion, the quick-tempoed bassline, and melodic voice of Gloria Estefan, the rhythm is almost irresistible. This 1985 dance single from American recording group DeBarge was a departure of sorts, from the hit R&B ballads that they had built their name on in the early 1980s. While they were known to have pop dance songs in their repertoire, it wasn’t until “Rhythm of the Night” that their crossover appeal reached a crescendo. The song also capitalized on the success of fellow Motown Records artist Lionel Richie, who was known for ballads until his own breakout crossover hit, “All Night Long.” Considered one of the pop/R&B tracks that jump-started songwriter Diane Warren’s storied career, the idea behind the song was to take advantage of singer El DeBarge’s deep tenor voice, while also incorporating his trademark falsetto. The parallels between Richie’s “All Night Long” and DeBarge’s “Rhythm of the Night” are evident - from the Caribbean influences of Calypso peppering both tracks, to the softened tenor voices juxtaposed against the energetic party-themed music, even to the themes of both artists’ music videos for their respective singles.Īs the seminal track to Janet Jackson’s fourth album in 1989, entitled “Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814,” “Rhythm Nation” served as a socially-conscious political response to various tragedies being reported in the media. Particularly, the spark for “Rhythm Nation” and a number of other tracks came from a news report on the infamous 1989 Stockton Playground Murders: a disgruntled drifter named Patrick Purdy, resentful of Cambodian immigrants for taking jobs he felt he deserved, shot up a playground at Cleveland Elementary in Stockton, California, killing 5 and injuring another 30. Jackson and co-producer Jimmy Jam Harris III wanted to make a song that represented racial unity and a utopian, colorblind world united by music and dance. Isildur can finally rest in peace.Ĭelebrimbor doesn’t like this one bit, so he abandons Talion. During War, Talion fights and destroys Isildur, releasing his spirit rather than dominating him with the new Ring. In these games, Sauron put one of the Rings of Power given to Men on Isildur’s finger This resurrected the dead king and transformed him into a Nazgul. Shadow of War would have us believe that the orcs dragged Isildur all the way back to Sauron after he died, and the Dark Lord “put a ring on it.” Literally. He’s often remembered for cutting the Ring from Sauron’s finger, but he kept the Ring for himself until it dropped into the river where Gollum would find it many years later. Whatever happened to Isildur, Aragorn’s ancestor, after he died? By most accounts, he was killed by orcs at the Disaster of Gladden Fields (the movies offer up an oversimplified version of what actually happened) and left dead in the river. Isildur gets an expanded backstory and role in 'Shadow of War'. And Talion taking down a Balrog is the equivalent of Galen Marek fighting a Bull Rancor. They’re all supposed to be long dead, but at least two are still burning to destroy everything they encounter in this age.Įxperiences like fighting a Balrog make these games feel similar to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed when it comes to canon, which is to say it explores a really fun “what if?” scenario that isn’t “real.” It’s cool to think that Darth Vader had an ultra-powerful secret apprentice behind the Emperor’s back, but we all know it didn’t actually happen. Their powers are on par with the Wizards of Middle-earth but they served Morgoth, Sauron’s evil predecessor. Keep in mind that Balrogs pre-date even Sauron. Orcs awaken the Balrog Tar Goroth during Shadow of War, and Talion defeats him with some extra help from his army. Remember how Gandalf basically died fighting a Balrog? Gandalf, who is essentially a magical angel? Well, as Talion you can totally fight and kill a Balrog. So apparently Talion is more powerful than Gandalf the Grey. Things get pretty complicated, but here are nine ways Shadow of Mordor and War drastically change LOTR canon. In many others, they’re gratuitous ways to include characters or imagery that fans will recognize (aka, fan service). In some cases, they overwrite established canon. Talion’s adventure(s) could conceivably fit as “canon,” but the games create a series of inconsistencies and other discrepancies that don’t match up neatly. We explore Mordor with Talion, an undead human ranger who used to guard the Black Gate, and Celebrimbor, the elven lord turned wraith who is bound to Talion after a ritual. Like the first game, Shadow of War takes place in the 60 years or so between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Warning: Spoilers follow for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. Where does the ranger Talion’s adventure fit in with Tolkien’s timeline of Middle-earth? Does this game and its predecessor count as real Lord of the Rings canon? Here’s a deep dive into the biggest ways Shadow of War impacts LOTR canon. The combat and novel mechanics may be excellent, but the liberties taken with this universe’s lore could confused, or even offend, hardcore fans of Tolkien’s work. Tolkien’s fantasy universe continued with the sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War in 2017. The thrilling third-person action game set in J.R.R. One of the best games of 2014 was Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. 6/22/2023 0 Comments Ttv emotesIs 80% javascript project, is free for use ONLY in the webpage, from the url than you can generate. Her stunned pause before she screams is retained in the finished film. Wray recounted to numerous interviewers how director Michael Curtiz shot the scene before she had ever seen the burn makeup, and how she simply froze on camera when confronting it for the first time. His greatest creation has been his own wax image-underneath the mask is a hideously scarred visage. She strikes him in the face and is stunned when his features crack away. The film’s most famous scene shows Atwill, rising from his wheelchair and perfectly able to walk, advancing on Wray and telling her how he plans to re-create his Marie Antoinette by embalming her in wax, preserving her beauty forever. Charlotte’s roommate, Florence Dempsey (Glenda Farrell), a wisecracking reporter, notices that Igor’s sculpture of Joan of Arc bears a startling resemblance to another woman named Joan-a recent suicide whose body was stolen from the morgue-and starts to smell a story. When he meets Charlotte Duncan (Wray), the girlfriend of his studio assistant, he immediately sees the image of his most beloved lost creation, a statue of Marie Antoinette, and becomes obsessed with her. But Igor somehow survives, now in a wheelchair, and twelve years later he reappears in New York City with a new exhibit, this one calibrated to appeal to morbid popular taste with scenes of murder, torture, and execution. His business partner sets fire to the premises to collect insurance money, leaving the sculptor to die in the flames. Ivan Igor (Atwill) is a talented waxworks artist committed to elevating his craft into a respected art form, but his museum is failing badly because he refuses to pander to public taste by installing the obligatory horror exhibits. The heightened realism worked the same magic on audiences as did wax figures-the more lifelike the illusion, the more riveting it became. īoth films were shot in two-strip Technicolor, a film process that effectively suggested a full-color image without actually requiring that one be entirely created (a similar, cost-saving process was already well-established in magazine illustration and printing). The formula performed well enough at the box office that the same actors were immediately assigned to Mystery of the Wax Museum. Warners produced Doctor X, based on a hit Broadway horror play, casting Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, and Arthur Edmund Carewe. But on the whole, horror still seemed a good bet. Hyde and Island of Lost Souls, while MGM had failed to capitalize on the horror craze with Tod Browning’s gamble, Freaks, which backfired badly, repelling audiences and critics with its display of real human deformity. Paramount had already scored considerable success with Dr. acquired the rights to the play at the height of Hollywood’s 1931–1932 lucrative “monsterfication,” led by Universal. He rebuilds his exhibit with embalmed corpses coated in wax. Belden, author of an unproduced play called The Wax Museum, in which he imagined a sculptor named Ivan Igor who survives a similar conflagration hideously disfigured and mentally unhinged. The incident stuck in the mind of one playwright, Charles S. The world’s most famous wax museum was Madame Tussaud’s in London, which made headlines in 1925 when it was spectacularly destroyed by fire. The main attraction was often a Chamber of Horrors that re-created historical atrocities as well as tabloid tableaux of gruesome modern crimes. It is in horror movies that this pervading sense of the uncanny still speaks to us.īefore movies, people went to wax museums to experience a pleasurable shudder in the presence of human replicas. Some early commentators on the medium worried that film might be nothing less than the arrival of living death. Motion pictures are another way to create duplicate people that originally had a palpably creepy edge. If one self is killed, the other will survive. According to psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud and Otto Rank, perfect human simulacra, or doppelgängers, arise spontaneously in the primal imagination as defense mechanisms against danger and death. There is a good reason that doubles, dolls, and effigies of all kinds figure prominently in horror stories. Available from Running Press, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, Inc. I hope you're soon to be airborne, if you've not already made that step! It's pretty handy to have the sheets in a tablet that is easily packed, stored, fitting the kneeboard, and capable of giving up individual sheets of documentation as needed. It doesn't take more than 20 minutes (total) invested in the process to build a kneeboard size pad of graph paper (from the cutting through the glue applications). That would work, however packing a three ring binder in my flight kit takes up a lot more room than a pad. Wouldn't it be easier to hole punch the graph paper and put it on the rings on the kneeboard? Quote from: 1st Lt Thompson on September 14, 2015, 06:08:37 PM We will possibly go Thursday afternoon before the meeting, or Saturday morning, so I have a little time to go over my gear and organize it a little better, and get a little more familiar with sectionals and lat/long, which is my main area of weakness. There is no requirement that your CAPF 101 be paper, only that it be presented at the Mission base. The iPad is always with me in the cockpit as I use it for multiple tasks. About four treatments of glue application to the exposed end, each allowed to dry before applying the next, will give you a very useful pad that is the perfect size for your kneeboard and for the cockpit.Īlso, I carry the CAPF 101 on my iPad. Expose just the end of the stack, then smear Elmers glue or any other wood glue on the exposed end of the stack. You can bind the pad by compressing the packet of graph paper with the card stock on the bottom. To create a pad simply buy a piece of card stock and cut it into 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" pieces. You can make a kneeboard sized pad by buying a packet of gridded paper and cutting the sheets in half. The pre-printed grids work well to facilitate map drawing, recording cardinal directions, establishing definite columns and blanks for repetitive notes (like headings, altitudes, target descriptions, etc.). One thing I've seen (and use) is gridded paper cut and bound to fit a kneeboard. Some Wings have scanner forms that help you organize information. In my experience, a ball point pen works better than one of the gel pens because the ink is less likely to smear. Regardless, write in ink because your notes are important. Pencil lead shavings in the carpet could be a source of corrosion for the decking. An errant mark on the aircraft's metal skin, unprotected deck plates, or any other unprotected (unpainted!) aluminum surface can introduce graphite which will eventually work its way into the metal causing a weak spot. Regarding your proposed equipment list may I suggest you skip the pencils? FWIW, graphite will destroy unprotected aluminum.
